Feature on College Fashionista!

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT:

Ally Straussner

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT

Who said you can’t wear the same outfit at night that you did during the day? This Fashionista and fashion blogger’s black ensemble is comfy enough for class and trendy enough to go out. She creates a multi-textural and monochromatic masterpiece of leather, cotton and fur, decorated with gold accents and accessories.

Name: Ally Straussner
Year in school: Sophomore
Major: Magazine Journalism
College Fashionista:  Where are your favorite places to shop at?
Ally Straussner: Lately, I’ve been into thrift and vintage shopping in the Chicagoland area, however, online is more realistic while I’m away at school. Also, a lot of people in the United States don’t realize that the UK is a huge platform for fashion, as well as fashion blogging, and they have a lot of cool online stores! I enjoy River Island, and New Look. Although, of course, I appreciate Zara, Urban Outfitters and NASTY GAL.
CF: What are your winter wardrobe essentials?
AS: This year, definitely a black, leather, cigarette-leg pant, or leather quilted jacket. An off-white fisherman knit sweater and some kind of fur (I have an amazing infinity faux fur scarf I’m obsessed with).  I’m also a huge fan of combat boots, any kind of houndstooth and a knit beanie with a dark lip to finish any look!
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
AS: I usually go back and forth with extremes. Being at school changes my style a lot and I dress more urban back home in Chicago. So the closest to describing my style is perhaps: eclectic, functionally feminine, minimalistic, urban, sporty and anachronistic.
CF: Who are your style icons? Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
AS: I get most of my fashion inspiration from my blog (www.tartally.blogspot.com). Everyone in the blogging community has so many different angles they go off of and try, which is really inspiring. To watch people grow and evolve their style, then change it at a drop of a hat (literally) is really cool. If I had to really choose one person as my style icon, it would be Olivia Palermo.
How To: A simple long-sleeved top in neutral colors such as black, white and gray are essentials to any wardrobe. Invest in a vest like this Fashionista’s fur and houndstooth style, or experiment with a denim or leather one to layer over the solid top. You can wear this to class and then dress it up at night with funky earrings or a statement necklace.
