Polo matches began long before our time, and by means of society, the ponies, people and etiquette has maintained relatively the same throughout history. Polo was one of the very first team sports to originate, so in that regard I wonder if that is the reason people still find it classic to dress up for the sport. In any case, I love it. I wish it was still a few decades ago when people dressed up for other sporting events. Now, we just have men in barbecue stained T-shirts with beer belly's tailgating for the next football or baseball game. Polo matches are still timeless and that's what I love most about them. The whole hat deal though just makes me jump up and down with excitement. The derby, horse track and polo matches are really the only places you can wear an amazingly crazy hat, and people will love you for it. That is my kind of scene.
.....Sometimes I wish I lived in the UK where everyone has garden parties and wear fancy hats. We can only hope the trend starts over here.
